QUETTA
Quetta is the capital of province Balochistan, throughout its length and breadth it is dotted with prehistoric mounds which are the remnants of ancient villages. These mounds belong to different periods and represent various stages of cultural evolution.
South of Quetta valley, are located the sites of Pirak, Noushero and Mehargarh which have been excavated by a French team in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, Government of Pakistan. These sites represent an ancient culture spanning the period from 7000 B.C. to 800 B.C. Mehargarh is the only site which has revealed a continuous sequence of cultures in Balochistan.
The name Quetta is derived from the work ‘Kuwatta’ which means a fort. The city is surrounded by imposing hills like Chiltan, Takatoo, Murdar and Zarghun. It lies 1692 metres above sea level at the mouth of Bolan Pass. To name a few of the attractions of Quetta and Balochistan are:
